Fox hunting is available in the heartland of Virginias finest hunt Country. Arrangements can be made through your innkeeper for fox-hunting six days per week. Ride with one of ten hunts to choose from including: Casanova, Rappahannock, Blue Ridge, Warrenton, Piedmont, Orange County, Old Dominion, Loudon, Middleburg or Fairfax. Exquisite, made hunters are available for hire, or bring your own hunter and stay at the Black Horse Inn, where eight stalls are available for $55 per night. Surrounding the Inn are several large pastures complete with run-in sheds.
Hunting and jumping has been a way of life for many Virginians throughout much of the history of the Old Dominion. Bring your horses for training on our novice cross-country course. A lighted outdoor riding arena is available for your riding convenience year-round. For a challenge, experienced riders can ride at Great Meadows, located only ten minutes from the Black Horse Inn, with a wide variety of cross-country, brush and timber fences to practice on.
Warrenton and the surrounding area has become the center of point-to-point racing in America. The Black Horse Inn provides a soothing respite for horses and riders alike, and has housed the lucky owners of one winner of the Virginia Gold Cup races two years consecutively. Twenty four race meets and point-to-points provide participants and spectators with opportunities to enjoy the color of the sport at scenic locations. Horses that are trained and ridden by professionals competed for purses that totaled over $700,000 dollars last year. Bring a tailgate picnic and enjoy beautiful spring or fall days at the races.
There are also many of the finest horse shows in the area including shows year round at Commonwealth Park, Warrenton [(A-rated) Labor Day weekend], Middleburg Classic (May), or Upperville (June). Stable your horses at the Inn and enjoy a nice hot Jacuzzi after a day of hard competition.
Training by some of the areas experts is also available nearby. Ask your innkeeper for recommendations on instruction for dressage, jumping, three-day eventing, and endurance riding.
